D.E.A.R DAY!

πŸ“šβœ¨ Today our school community came together to celebrate the joy of reading during NEA Read Across America with a building-wide 30 minutes of DEAR — Drop Everything And Read!

Students and staff paused their busy day, grabbed a great book, and spent time getting lost in stories and learning. Research shows that independent reading is one of the most powerful ways to build literacy skills. Just 20 minutes of daily reading can increase overall reading achievement by about 39% and help students score nearly 30% higher on standardized tests. οΏΌ

Reading regularly also exposes students to an incredible number of words — about 1.8 million words per year when students read around 20 minutes a day — helping grow vocabulary and comprehension. οΏΌ

Even more exciting, students who engage in daily independent reading are up to 50% more likely to read above grade level, build stronger comprehension skills, and develop a lifelong love of books. οΏΌ

A huge thank you to our incredible school librarian Mrs. Dworsky, who has been working tirelessly to help spread the love of literacy throughout Richardson Park. Your dedication helps our students grow into confident readers every single day! β€οΈπŸ“–
